Last year was the year activewear and loungewear truly took centre stage. From lounge sets to activewear as office-wear, lockdown took this fashion category to new heights.

This year sees the trend continue as we farewell couch comforts (and those cosy trackpants). Major fashion houses embraced athleisure this season, with designers like Prada embracing chic, ‘90s style nylon shoulder bags and sports-luxe silhouettes.

So, which athleisure trends are sweeping the nation this winter, and how can you incorporate them stylishly into your winter wardrobe?

Seamless Activewear

Seamless activewear isn’t just stylish this season – it offers maximum flexibility and moveability, while keeping you comfortable.

Seamless clothing generally means that a garment that typically has four seams will have two. This not only means fast production so labels can jump on trends as they happen, it also provides extra comfort as you move, without rubbing or seams splitting.  Look for this undeniably comfortable activewear trend in knits and leggings this season.

Luxury Athleisure

Activewear has gone high fashion for both men and women this season, with high-shine fabrics and creative, eye-catching designs coming through.

For women, we’re loving high-shine tights or tights with a statement stripe. For the men, try a statement wind breaker or an on-trend, shiny puffer jacket. And to work out in style -- if you are wearing one statement piece, tone down the other elements of your outfit.

High-Shine and High-Performance Activewear

We’re seeing plenty of high-performance fabrics in activewear for both sexes this season.
Around for a few years, it has typically been relegated to sports luxury brands, but in 2021, it’s going to become the norm, as designers embrace moisture-wicking fabrics, or products with reflective capabilities built into the fabrics.

Finding these items is all about research. Remember – your activewear fabrics should be durable, well-fitted and high-quality, as these garments need to have the capacity to stretch and move. They are also subjected to more regular washes in the machine than other clothing.

Heading out in hiking gear feels like a breath of fresh air this season. We’re seeing natural tones emerge in the activewear space, like khaki, earthy greens, and charcoals.

For menswear, this trend is about adding a few key pieces. High-quality hiking boots are an essential first step, while adding activewear pieces in earthy tones with multiple pockets completes the look.
