4 tips for organising your home in a weekend
Forget Spring cleaning, Summer is the perfect time organise your home
Published 06 January

The start of the year is the perfect time to refresh your home, turn your attention to storage solutions, minimising clutter and start the year with a clean tidy space.

If your home could do with an organisation overhaul, follow these simple steps to make a massive difference in your home, all of which could be achieved in one weekend this Summer.

Insider tip: Now is the perfect time to get started on your organisation with some helpful tips from one of our home storage experts MUJI:

1. Organise your closet per season

Between Summer and Winter, your wardrobe changes drastically. Now that we’re in Summer retire your heavy Winter coats and Winter thermals and store them away in a box in the garage or in a vacuum bag at the top of your closet. That way you’ll make space for your beautiful Summer wardrobe options, plus you’ll have a much clearer vision of what to wear every day.

Hint: Most of us don’t have the wardrobe of our dreams, but that doesn’t mean you can’t vastly improve it without the need to renovate. Add extra shelves, fill up floor space with shoe racks or temporary drawers, and buy some hanging storage solutions, too. You’ll be amazed what you can fit into your wardrobe when there’s ample shelves and storage boxes to help organise everything and optimise space.

2. Invest in hideaway storage

It may be an investment, but a bed frame with built-in drawers can really help maximise your storage space and minimise your mess! Having under-bed drawers help double your storage space so you don’t need to pack so much into your dresser drawers and closet, and it also allows you the option you to do away with a set of dresser altogether to give yourself more floor space.

3. Designate a space for everything

Yes, even your pots and pans. When everything in your home has its own place, it’s much easier to keep things tidy. Get creative and use magazine holders or storage boxes to separate items for a cleaner look, and consider marking them with labels so everyone in your house knows exactly where everything belongs.

4. Add moveable shelving

Bathroom storage is where a lot of us struggle to find enough space to house all our toiletries and linen. The easiest and most cost-effective way to fix that problem is by bringing in a shelving unit. If it’s moveable, and the shelves are all varying heights, you can fit all shapes and sizes of bottles and beauty products in them.
