Feel like it’s been a while since you last dressed up, got out and did something special? Chances are it has been, which is why your next outing is likely to be all the sweeter when you do make it happen.
To mark the occasion (and as a reward for making it this far through the year) now’s a great time to treat yourself to some new wardrobe staples that you can rely on to elevate your style. Here, we take a look at some of the newest smart-casual styles coming through for women, men and kids this spring.
Nothing quite stirs us to bring in the new like spring fashion and the first signs of the new season’s styles are starting to appear in stores now. This season, there’s a definite hint of romance in the air, with details such as ruffles, frills, lace, high necks and blouson sleeves all setting the tone. Paisley prints are making a comeback in sheer fabrics, while pastels, neutrals, rose pink and bold checks are also starring. On the bottom half, think culottes, paper-bag jeans, multi-tiered skirts and cropped wide-leg pants. It’s also time for sandals and heels – look for mid-height block heels with raffia and woven details.

As we say goodbye to winter, fellas will be turning again to brighter colours, shorter sleeves and lightweight trousers and knits. As we round the bend into spring, menswear is certainly getting more colourful, with tones of watermelon, aqua and lemon all appearing. The popular earthy tones and neutrals of last season can also be seen translated into spring/summer menswear. Naturally, it pays to look for breathable fabrics as the weather warms up, which means linen, cotton and lightweight wool. For instant polish, add a slick new pair of casual leather trainers.

FOR THE KIDS
Many of the recent adults’ streetwear trends have made their way into kids’ wear, which makes it super fun for little ones to express their inner mini-fashionista. For girls, we’re seeing plenty of ruffles, frills, paper-bag waists and blouson sleeves; while for boys, earthy-hued tops, fun prints and tapered-leg pants are all considered pretty cool. You’ll find plenty of colour in this season’s kids’ shoes, too – with spots, stripes and animal prints all appearing.
