When it comes to surviving the school holidays, our top sanity-saving tip is to have a long list of ideas for things to do to keep the kids entertained. That way you’re prepared for those “I’m bored” pleas.
Start with the small stuff, like a couple of craft ideas or having some movies at the ready that you know they’ve been wanting to see. Outdoor activities are great, too. Even though it’s a little chilly, anything that helps them burn energy is a real life-saver!
Next, add to your list some bigger ideas, like activities that will get them out of the house, take up a few hours, and ones that they’ll be extra excited for. If you need some inspiration, mark these school holiday activities that are happening in the CBD over the next two weeks in your diary:
Do your kids have a dream of becoming a mini MasterChef? Or do they just love helping out in the kitchen? Learning how to cook is a valuable life skill that also happens to be a lot of fun! These school holidays, both Grill’d and Vapiano are hosting kids cooking classes, so sign your little ones up!

Canberra’s Wintervention festival is back, and a few laps on the pop-up ice skating rink (followed by a toasty hot chocolate post-skating) is the perfect way for the kids to spend a cool winter’s day or night. Located in Civic Square in front of the Canberra Theatre, the open air ice rink is open daily from 10am to 8pm. Make sure you stop by on a Friday, Saturday or Sunday, too, as there will be scheduled performances from the ‘Stars on Ice’ as well as live music and entertainment.

Nestled in the warmth of Canberra Centre (on the Ground Level outside The North Face), get into the winter mood with a friendly virtual snowball fight.
